After Woody Johnson, owners of the New York Jets said “And it was our best judgment to do what we did. Darrelle is a great player. I’d love for Darrelle to come back.” The NFL did not take too kindly to Johnsons words, which fall under the category of tampering. This happened on December 29 of 2014, and the NFL has just sent an investigator to the Jets, to see if tampering did in fact take place. Darrelle Revis is still in a 2-year contract with the Patriots, but this may hurt their chances when negotiating the next contract. Obviously, Woody Johnson said that he “misspoke” and did not mean what he said to be taken out of context. Well, in a game where the rules are king, it doesn’t leave much up for interpretation. The bad news is that the NFL rarely does enforce the anti-tampering policy, but when they catch a someone red handed, they do act. In fact, the Jets continue to make things worse, as they have offered Revis $39 million fully guaranteed over three years. This may give the NFL enough of a push to punish the Jets.
