Seattle Seahawks @ Atlanta Falcons Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013 1 p.m. ET

As perhaps the most anticipated playoff matchup of the weekend, the Seattle Seahawks will go on the road for a second consecutive week to face-off against the Atlanta Falcons at the Georgia Dome. The Falcons were able to prove they’re no longer an afterthought in the NFC this season by dominating the competition, winning 13 games and clinching the number one seed in the conference. Although Atlanta only lost three games all season long, clinched home-field advantage and a first-round bye in the playoffs, the Falcons are still a team that not many people are giving credit to as a legitimate Super Bowl title contender in the NFC. The Green Bay Packers, San Francisco 49ers and Seahawks are considered to be serious threats to go the distance in the playoffs, but no one seems to be giving the Falcons their due until they win one game in the postseason with Matt Ryan under center. Fortunately for the Falcons, the team will be playing on their home field at Georgia Dome right out of the gate and throughout the playoffs. The Falcons are as good as any team in the league at home and will be a serious force to be reckoned with in front of their hometown crowd on Sunday in Atlanta. As for the Seahawks, rookie Russell Wilson continues to prove that he’s one of the best quarterbacks in the league after only one season under center in Seattle. Along with Wilson’s impressive season for Seattle, the Seahawks’ defense is among the best in the NFL this season with the ability to stifle opposing offenses on a weekly basis. Perhaps the most intriguing part of this matchup on Sunday will be the Falcons’ potent offense going head-to-head against the lockdown defense of the Seahawks. Atlanta has been able to carve up opposing secondaries with relative ease all season long, but the Falcons ease of schedule has played a big factor in that success. Many believe the Falcons still aren’t the real deal despite an impressive season. Atlanta’s success will be put to the test on Sunday against Seattle who’ll be coming at Ryan and company all day long. At this point in time, the Seahawks are the underdogs heading into the matchup with the Falcons favored with a -1 point spread. Seattle is the better team in my opinion and will likely pull off the upset.

Prediction: Seahawks +1
