NFL Thursday Night Football complaints
More and more NFL players are coming forward, and they are all complaining about the same thing, Thursday Night Football games. It has been a growing concern for many that the players are being put at risk due to the present schedule of games, considering that games are played on Thursday, Sunday, and Monday. Richard Sherman, cornerback for the Seattle Seahawks, is the latest player to step forward and voice his frustration with how the League is operating. The primary concern with this is that players that have games on Sunday and then on Thursdays are only given four days to rest between matches. For anyone that has seen how physical this sport can be should know that acting on a professional level they need plenty of rest to avoid possible injuries. Other concerns come from playing at night, where visibility isn’t as great; which would move to include Monday night games as well. Sherman states,
“I mean, it’s rough. It’s rough on the body. Any time you play a football game and play another one a few days later, it’s going to be tough on the body. But it’s just another one of those things. Another one of those simple contradictions of the league, because they care about us.”
Other players that have voiced their opinion regarding this include: Players and coaches are stating that the League is being hypocritical as they say they are trying their best to minimize injuries and take into account their health, yet are still promoting Thursday Night games, where at least two teams each week will only have four days to rest between matches. Hosting and televising games on Thursdays has actually been a huge income boost for the NFL, which is probably another reason that fans and players are calling them hypocrites. Currently, each team has to play at least on one Thursday out of the regular season, meaning two teams each week will have this issue. However, if a simply scheduling change were to happen, where the team that played on Thursday was given a Bye week after, they would avoid this whole situation. Let’s hope the NFL does something to remedy this, as more and more players could come forward soon enough.
