New Orleans Saints @ Dallas Cowboys Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012 1 p.m. ET

Coming into Week 16, there are many teams in both conferences fighting to keep their playoff hopes alive. Although only two weeks remain in the 2012 NFL regular season, five playoff spots still need to be filled with three in the NFC and two in the AFC. Among the most intriguing battles for one of the final five spots is in the NFC East. With a three-way tie for the division lead between the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants, up-and-coming Washington Redskins and resurgent Dallas Cowboys, any one of these teams could be playoff bound after Week 16. It’s not beyond the realm of possibility for these three teams to clinching spots in the NFC without a division title, but the NFC East crown is the easiest path for the Cowboys, Redskins and Giants. Unfortunately for New York, Dallas and Washington have been red-hot over the last few weeks of the season and continue to put pressure on the defending champs in terms of contending for the division crown. The winner of the NFC East division title may very well be determined in Week 17, but in the meantime, all three teams need to come out with wins this weekend in order to stay in the hunt. One of the three teams that may have the toughest task on Sunday is the Cowboys. Tony Romo and company will go head-to-head against Drew Brees’ New Orleans Saints at Cowboys Stadium. Even though the Cowboys have been back to form as of late with five wins in the last six games. The last two weeks of which have been against the toughest competition in the Cincinnati Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers. As for the Saints, New Orleans still has an outside chance of clinching a playoff spot, but it’s safe to say they’re basically out of contention even with two straight wins to finish the season. Even with an outside chance, Brees and company will be coming into Dallas with sights set on another win to improve their shot of being playoff bound and extending the season. At this point in time, the Cowboys have been dubbed the favorites in this contest with the Saints. Dallas is the favorite with a -1 point spread probably due to the simple fact that they’ll be playing at home. This game will be tight and will potentially come down to the wire, but in the end the Cowboys should get the win.

Prediction: Cowboys -1
