New Orleans Saints (-3) @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+3) Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012 1 p.m. ET

As arguably the biggest disappointment of the 2012 season after the first six weeks, the New Orleans Saints appear to be a team can’t put the pieces back together after an off-season filled with controversy. Along with dealing with the bounty scandal, the Saints have also dealt with the absence of suspended head coach Sean Payton and that has clearly taken its toll on this team as well. Fortunately, New Orleans was able to breakout of their funk in Week 6 with a much-needed first win of the season over the San Diego Chargers, 31-24. A few things went right in Week 6 that led to the Saints finally winning their first game of the year as Drew Brees broke Johnny Unitas’ record, Payton was in the stands watching and both offense and defense played consistently well. The defense did give up 24 points to Philip Rivers and company, but that was to be expected against the Chargers’ potent offense with an ability to light up the scoreboard on a weekly basis regardless of the opponent. In Week 7, Brees and company will attempt to keep firing on all cylinders and capitalize on the win over San Diego. The Saints will be on the road once again as they will take on the division rival Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium. The real question heading into this divisional matchup will be whether or not New Orleans are back to playing at an elite level. Even though the Saints have only one win on the season thus far, Brees continues to play as an MVP-caliber quarterback with 14 touchdowns to only six interceptions. In order for this team to get back into contention for the NFC South division title and possibly make a run at a Super Bowl, Brees must continue to play at this level and hopefully see his teammates on both sides of the football come around. As for the Bucs, Josh Freeman and company continue to fail to live up to expectations. There’s no question this squad is talented and Freeman may have a bright future in this league as a result, but they’ve only won one more game than the Saints and appear to be nowhere near the team that surprised everyone two years ago. Unfortunately for both teams, the NFC South division is arguably the worst in the NFL this season with the division-leading Atlanta Falcons (6-0) dominating the competition on a weekly basis. With that being said, the Saints and Bucs will be shooting for an NFC Wildcard berth in order to get in the playoffs if Matt Ryan and company continue to impress. Currently, the Saints are favored by -3 to come out on top in this NFC South division battle. It’s hard to tell at this point whether or not New Orleans is back on track, but it’s a safe bet with Brees running the show.

Prediction: Saints -3
