New York Giants (-1) @ Dallas Cowboys (+1) Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012 4:25 p.m. ET

The NFC East division is always one of the most competitive in the NFL every single season. With four teams in the division that are legitimate playoff contenders this season, this year is no different and arguably more competitive than ever. As without question the best team of the bunch in the NFC East, the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants are the team to beat in the division with crosshairs directly on their backs during their title defense this season. So far, Eli Manning and company have lived up to the challenge of being defending champions with a 5-2 record and first place standing in the division. New York got off to a rocky start right out of the gate this year with a loss to the Dallas Cowboys, but has been solid over the last three weeks. The three-game win streak by the Giants began with solid win over the lowly Cleveland Browns, 41-27. Even though the 41 points was impressive, the Week 6 destruction of the San Francisco 49ers was by far the most dominant performance of the season for the Giants. With a 26-3 blowout against arguably the best defense in the NFL, New York proved they’re ready to defend their title possibly run the table for the rest of the season. Despite the statement game in the Bay Area, the Giants struggled to put away the up-and-coming Washington Redskins the following week, 27-23. Benefit of the doubt, rookie Robert Griffin III has been extremely difficult to contain for all the teams he’s faced. With that being said, the Giants may get back to form in Week 8 against the arch division rival Cowboys. Although the Philadelphia Eagles are a force to be reckoned with in the division standings at 3-3, the Cowboys are the biggest threat to the Giants moving forward in my opinion. Dallas got the best of New York in Week 1 and may do the same this week. Unlike Week 1, this game will be played away from MetLife Stadium and in hostile territory for the defending champs. The Cowboys have been as streaky as any talented team in the NFL this season, but have the firepower to contend with the likes of the Giants coming into this divisional matchup. At this point in time, the Giants still have the advantage in terms of the point spread at -1. Taking the Giants with this favorable spread is a solid bet in my opinion.

Prediction: Giants -1
